Yesterday we went on a train ride, 4.17.10, our first train ride ever. Kinda crazy. Just like the bus, but so many more crazy people on there. Sitting, walking, passing by, there was so much going on. Overwhelming at times. A man gets on with like 5 service dogs. yes FIVE! Everyone stares, the operator says on the speaker, “sir you cannot bring those dogs on here”….a train rentacop says, “sir, no you cannot do that! Not all those dogs!!” The man replies, “do you want to see the paper work?” No one is listening nor do they want to see the paper work. Everyone is still staring. The train operator goes on her break and as she walks by she says to him from outside the train, “did you hear me, you can’t bring in those dogs!” The man again says, I asked the guy if he wanted to see the paper work!” She threatens him that they are calling the Sheriff and at the next stop he will be there. He says thats fine and tells her go ahead. The man didn’t do or say anything to anyone. Minding his own business. So the train continues. We get off at the next stop and he gets off too. No sheriff. Empty threats. The only thing I didn’t mention is that this man, was obviously homeless and carrying a huge bag and his skin was burned to an auburn crisp. He had long braided dirty waxy hair and was filthy. Would an otherwise clean, “normal” looking man, be harassed in such a way? On the way back home we were on the train and I took this picture of Aidan. After I took it, a melancholy mood came over me and I thought to myself, that how could it be that we are so happy and have all the people we really need in our lives to make it happy, others are not so lucky (e.g: the girl standing in the background, stood like that for a good 20minutes). :O(
